'leap of absence' for 'leave of absence'

A leave is a leap from work. About 600 ghits. “Leaf of absence’ also occurs but is less common and doesn’t make as much sense. Examples of both:

Following the incident coach Elford took a leap of absence for over one week.

i just started reading your story again after taking a sort of leap of absence,
and I have to say, I am definitely intrigued…

... if you could afford it, id ask for a leap of
absence for close to a month, and completly get coding out of your head… index.php?showtopic=1706225&view=getnewpost

... I dont want someone that disappears for like a month or two unless you have
a reason like exams or something or announce a leap of absence.

Soon taking a temporary leap of absence for a major milestone
goal. ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=print_topic;f=1;t=002237

I have the honour to ask wither you will grant me (10) ten days leaf of absence
more. mi_qa3905/is_200301/ai_n9194679

Miss Hettie White will most likely go off on a year’s leaf of absence.
