Terry v. Ohio
was a precedent setting decision by the US Supreme Court which thereafter allowed police officers to stop and frisk people on the street if the the police held a “reasonable suspicion” of that person’s perpdom. Kind of like what we do with purported eggcorns. It’s also known as a stop and frisk, a Terry frisk, and a Terry stop. With no requirement for a warrant or probable cause for arrest, it is sometimes thought of as a cherry stop. Other connotations may come into play as well.
Officer writes to say that in his experience, prostitutes will carry weapons, so he proceeded to perform a cherry frisk on her.
