April nonces 2015

A meagre/er haul this year, I’m afraid, though choice by turns.

Dogged is doggy, etymologically, but these two make that evident in novel ways.

The next one’s a bit facile, admittedly. There is a new presence on CBC radio this year in the person of Wab Kinew, a First Nations musician, broadcaster, and, lately, leader. I tried to look him up as Wab Canoe, I’m ashamed to admit. Others have made the same mistake, though when I looked for equally benighted souls back in February 2014, there was only one. Now that Wab is playing a much larger role on the radio, there are others – four, of this writing.

I love watching news, I’ve always wanted to be a news reporter! and I love watching the local news. I wanna be like Wab Canoe (reporter here in Winnipeg)

The next is cheating, kind of. Each was a nonce in its object: me/him/her/us. It might have been a Lehman’s term, if I knew who Kate was. Not Petruchio’s sweetie, surely.

Ranger rolled her eyes in disgust, “Strom, don’t play-Kate me!

This next was a nonce, though Dixon turned up a half-a-dozen in the singular.

Service was top knots and staff polite.

Anubis-like makes a nice change from the dog’s bollocks, perhaps:

It takes sacrifice and a dog head determination that we cannot or will not be beaten or steered off course from our chosen path. Thomas Edison …

You talk about stubbornness and yet you dog headily adhere to and defend that slave producing religion known as Islam?! I love it how you …
