The phrase “a dime a dozen”, misheard, has engendered “a diamond dozen”, with two main meanings. One is opposite to the meaning of “a dime a dozen”; in these cases, “a diamond dozen” implies that something is special. The other maintains the meaning of the original phrase (attribution of low value), but without any obvious eggcornish meaning connection. Here are some examples of the latter:
...there is something within her that radiates and makes her more than a woman who showed up in Hollywood with good bone structure and low body fat; those are a diamond dozen whereas there is only one Summer Glau.
