preverbal for proverbial

I just got this one while grading papers on the children’s show Teletubbies. The student clearly meant “proverbial” but somehow has misheard and reshaped the word’s meaning to something merely that has been around a long time. But when discussing a show for preschoolers who are very near preverbal, it seemed particularly apt.
