You will recall the ferment in the media about one Rachel Dolezal, who was ousted as leader of her local NAACP when it was discovered that she was actually a white woman who had passed for black for years.

They also hate The Inlander and other media sources that show them up or scoop them on stories, like The Coeur d’ Alene Press did on the Racial Dolezal story.

Of course, it’s likely a pun in most (all?) cases, but it’s plausible that someone may think the woman has received the nickname “Racial” due to her “trans-racial” subterfuge. I suppose we’ll never know if this is an eggcorn for anyone, absent a perp confession.
