This collocation occasionally comes up. E.g.
Like two peas in a pond! Here are the zodiac signs and their #BFF signs that see eye to eye the most! Do tell us if your best friend’s sign …
‘Sir Isaac Newton and I, we are like two peas in a pond.’ ” But the real peas in this pond are Humphrey and Tooly.
Most of the time it’s probably of course a mispronunciation of “two peas in a pod”, which might get written down as it sounds. Others talk as if it was a blend of two toads in a pond (hate to think of blended toads, but anyway) with peas in a pod. “Two toads in a pod” ought to be equally likely then, perhaps, but I can’t imagine myself coming out with that one.
.
I don’t really see much eggcornish potential there.
.
Anyhow, a guy at quora had fun with it. To the question “Which one is right? [pod/pond]”, he replies:
It’s really difficult to tell. Context and precise pronunciation are so important…
bq. “Two peas in a pod” – Identical
bq. “Two peas in a pond” – A niggardly attempt at feeding the ducks.
bq. “To peace in a pond” – Trump and Kim Jong-Un attempt to finally end the Korean War by attending a ‘Skinny-Dipping Summit’.
bq. “2p’s in a pond” – Making a wish?
bq. “Two pees in a pond” – Boys will be boys.
bq. “Two-piece in a pond” – Girl swimming in a bikini.
bq. “Toupées in a pond” – Hairpieces blown-off and now very wet.
bq. “To Pisa in a pod” – Naturalists track a group of Orcas migrating from Norway to Italy.
bq. “Two Petes in a pond” – Innocent boy fun
bq. “Two Petes in a blonde” – Non-innocent boy fun
bq. “Two peas-in-a-pod Petes in toupées and a paisan blonde from Pisa in a two-piece get no peace from a pod in a pond.” – A pair of strikingly-similar, wig-wearing men called Peter and a bikini-clad fair-haired lady from Tuscany are harassed by a school of Killer Whales in a small lake!
The conniptivating contibrutor of all this styles himself “Neil Morrison … Perpetual Student – Currently of Classics5y”.

Maybe we need to invite him to join our forum.
