Banded about

Although US usage of banded as a term for ringing birds is responsible for many occurrences of “banded about …”, there are also many where the context indicates scattering and hence should be “bandied about”. I suspect many of these are because users are not familiar with “bandy” as a verb, and hence they use the more familiar “band” without thought of the derivation (or of course may simply mis-type).
