Mach speed is measured in multiples of the speed of sound in a medium. Whereas few planes fly at supersonic speeds, “mach speed” is generically used to describe high speed transport. “Mock” can mean “having the character of imitation: simulated.” Perhaps there is the incorrect notion that very high speeds can only be achieved in video simulations—with unrealistic visual effects—and that the highest speeds imaginable are (therefore) just beyond reality, and lie in the realm of “mock” speeds.
