"Ground rounds" for medical grand rounds

I was alerted to this potential eggcorn by this post on a translator forum.

I found approximately 12,700 ghits for ground rounds at the time of posting this. A quick look at the first few pages showed that all of them referred to medical grand rounds. In some cases, “ground” and “grand” both appear on the same web page.

I don’t pronounce “ground” and “grand” the same way at all, but are there some regional variations where people do, or where they at least sound similar enough to be confused?
