These 2 words tend to be confused a lot, despite only a minimal similarity in meaning (they both describe mishaps, I guess.).

Here are susbstitution instyances in either direction: ‘Cry over split milk’ gets 400+ ghits. ‘Spilt infinitive’ is rarer, perhaps because people who care about grammar check their prose. Examples of both:
