"epicenter" => "epic center"

Came across this one while reading feeds. I’ve never seen it before, and wondered if it was just an example of “techie” writing. Also, the meaning wasn’t overly clear from the context. But further research found a few more examples.

The original “epic center”:

This is what one might call a Wet Floor Interface, it invites user errors when it actually intents to create a clean one-task interface. The burning process is Nero’s epic center but it’s interface makes it too easy for users to accidentally slip on the floor and break something.

Googling for “epic center” gets a whole lot of legit places (like “The EPIC Center for the Arts”, etc.), but googling for ‘the epic center of’ gets a couple of good hits:

from the main page of http://www.eurasianbusiness.org/:

The IPv6 Global Forum was held in Washington, D.C. at the epic center of the World’s Internet, military-industry complex, and the Global War on Terrorism infrastructure.

from http://www.tebyan.net/english/Art/2006/ … 0-Art.htm:

On ‘Jahez’ whose works, Dr. Chalby considers to be at the epic-center of the Arab world’s profound interest in books, many tales have been narrated, some of which may be true.

So “epic center” instead of “epicenter”... Though I haven’t seen “epicenter” used much outside geology, I guess one could argue that it means something like “at the very core.”

“Epic center”, too, means “at the very core”, but then seems to make the core more important. Subject of long poetry. Or movies. Not that I’ve seen many hexameters about the beauty of Nero’s burning engine…
