In http://gamepolitics.com/2006/11/07/elec … -watching/
we can read “New York candidate Eliot Spitzer (D): the popular Attorney General is a shoe-in to become governor; earlier this year he promised video game legislation” ; we also find that I’m not the first here – http://wsu.edu/~brians/errors/shoe-in.html complains about it too. Rather worryingly, “shoe-in” at Google exceeds “shoo-in” by more than 2 to 1.

Here’s the example I just stumbled upon in an online discussion about an upcoming movie:
Stephanie is a shoe-in for the Wasp while Nathan Fillion will make a great Ant-Man/Yellow Jacket.
I think that in some cases, the sense of this eggcorn might have something to do with people feeling that someone fits something like a foot fits the proper shoe.

Maybe it’s sort of like throwing your hat into the ring, except it’s your shoe?

Or maybe the image is of getting your foot in the door.
Anyway, here’s the most recent example I’ve come across:
THAT LITTLE KNEE PAD FAG george stuffoneupyourbutticus STATED THAT evan WAS A SHOE IN FOR REELECTION…
