we can read “New York candidate Eliot Spitzer (D): the popular Attorney General is a shoe-in to become governor; earlier this year he promised video game legislation” ; we also find that I’m not the first here – http://wsu.edu/~brians/errors/shoe-in.html complains about it too. Rather worryingly, “shoe-in” at Google exceeds “shoo-in” by more than 2 to 1.

Here’s the example I just stumbled upon in an online discussion about an upcoming movie:
Stephanie is a shoe-in for the Wasp while Nathan Fillion will make a great Ant-Man/Yellow Jacket.
I think that in some cases, the sense of this eggcorn might have something to do with people feeling that someone fits something like a foot fits the proper shoe.
