morality rate for mortality rate

I get this one quite a bit in my anthropology classes and it always struck me as somewhat appropriate. For if a staggeringly high mortality rate in less developed nations isn’t a reflection of our own sad morals I don’t know what is. Thus, it is a mortality rate for those who suffer it but for us, in the West, it is a morality rate, which gauges just how unaffected we are by the deaths of those less fortunate than us.
