"extrenuous" for . . . God knows what

A comment on a video (I think shown on PBS on “Frontline”) of American soldiers crushing an Iraqi’s car with their tank, supposedly as a punishment for looting firewood, but evidently because crushing things with your tank is fun when you’re bored on a hot day. (They shot the car a few times first, perhaps to kill it before they crushed it.) “The punishment was extrenuous, but they shouldn’t have been looting.”

Very creative. A mash-up of “strenuous” and “extraneous” and “extreme” and “excessive”?
