The non-word ‘abhorration’ shows up 1300 times. It’s sometimes a substitute for ‘aberration’- reasonably, since some aberrations are abhorrent- and sometimes seems to stand for any object of contempt. Still other writers use it as a synonym for ‘abortion.’ Examples of the substitution:

Well “freaky” to me is the right word…..grey in a horse is a genetic abhorration! In other words a freak of nature.
