Blinis are becoming quite popular. Most supermarkets sell ready-made ones now. Perhaps because of this more people are talking about them and lately I’ve heard a few people saying ‘Bellini’ when they really mean ‘Blini’. I think some people are confusing Bellini the cocktail with Blini the pancake. Is this an eggcorn or just a gastronomic mistake?

I’d consider “Bellini” to be an eggcorn of “Blini” if the utterer knows that there is something edible named “Bellini” but doesn’t know exactly what. Or, if the utterer concludes that since there is a famous person named “Bellini” that must be the correct name for the item. But alas, we walk a fine line with the malapropism category if the utterer doesn’t know exactly what his words mean.
