Fig Newton

As in merely a “fig newton of my imagination”. Apparently figments have become extinct and we are left with an edible substitute to contemplate.

Certainly a clever language reshaping …most likely intentional, as well. If you’re hunting for eggcorns, however, you need to locate unintentional alterations.

I have to side with jorkel on this. My father often said “fig newton of my imagine-ment”, invariably followed by a wink.
