The comments are actually more interesting than the article itself.

I’ve always been suspicious of this one. Like a number of the people who added comments to that article, I’ve heard this used as an intentional pun, but never eggcornishly. Still, quite a number of people maintain very fervently that it exists in the wild as a genuine eggcorn.
