“Deturn” for “detour” turned out to be weirdly complex. But while on the trail of that reshaping, I happened upon a different and less ambiguous eggcorn – “deturn” being used for “deter.” “Deter” comes from the same root as “terrify” – the idea is that when you deter someone from doing something, you scare them away from that idea. But “deturn” works well in the same context: you turn someone away from doing the undesirable thing. A few dozen hits. Examples:

First, you can talk to your child about it… or you can put things on the thumb to deturn them from wanting to suck on it… Such as really hot sause or soap.

The fact that he is easily 15 feet tall seems not to deturn him from the look of a curious and loving panther kitty..
Anyway, my advice is to focus on making it as time-consuming as possible just to deturn stupid thieves…they generally go for the easy targets.
