n'ery for nary

Seen here: http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/2007/ … stone.html (“n’ery a yarn shop”)

I think “n’ery” was coined under influence of the poetic “ne’er” for “never”. “Ne’ery” also appears, naturally.

Google has not revealed many hits for this potential eggcorn, probably partly because of the rarity of both “nary” and “ne’er” in casual speech.

Re: n'ery for nary

There are more than 50 unique hits today for ne’ery. The trouble is that nary is derived from ne’er a and not the other way round. That doesn’t negate the eggcornhood of ne’ery, but it weakens it, I think.
