More a malaprop than an eggcorn, but I’m beginning to wonder if there is indeed such a thing as a ‘titular spirit’ as it is surprisingly common. A ‘tutelary spirit’ is a minor god or spirit or genius loci who guards or watches over a person or place. ‘Titular’ relates to titles or status rather than protection. Neither word is common but neither are they so obscure that they could be too easily confused?
