“Gluehwein” is a spicy mulled red wine that’s associated with the Christmas holidays in Germany. The word appears in the OED (with an umlauted u instead of “ue”). Translated literally, “gluehwein” means “glow wine,” and the latter phrase is sometimes used as a calque in English. However, people often translate just the second half of the German compound, producing the delightfully infelicitous “glue wine.”
The popular drink is called “Glue-wine”. It tastes more like glue, than wine. (PS-they don’t spell it that way.)
