This may be nothing but a malapropism. But one common, if dubious, use of ‘parameter’ is as a synonym for ‘constraint’ or ‘limit’ (which is why parameters and perimeters get mixed together.) And having to write in a specified meter is, of course, a constraint. About 700 ghits:
