'Otter' for 'Ought to'

As in ‘I think I otter post about this potential eggcorn I saw today’. This is my first post here, so be gentle on me….

I spotted this on a gaming forum blog, used by a friend of mine, she wrote “Felt like I really otter say who I am and state my objectives in my blog…”

Googling for “I suppose I otter” throws up a few more examples, along with a few deliberate uses as a pun when discussing small semi-aquatic mammals.

Did I find an eggcorn?

Re: 'Otter' for 'Ought to'

Well, at the risk of being “ungentle,” I’d say no. “Otter” here could only be an eggcorn if the people using it were thinking of the word’s usual meaning (as in the playful marine mammal) in some way. It doesn’t look like that’s happening. It’s cute, though.
