Tin CAN Alley (pan)

Google counts on Oct 5, 2007:
58,800 “Tin Pan Alley”
4970 “Tin Can Alley”

“Tin Pan Alley” refers to the New York producers who dominated American popular music in the late 19th Century and Early 20th Century. There are undoubtedly numerous examples of intentional alterations to “Tin Can Alley”—including an electronic shooting game for kids and a 1917 movie “Lonesome Luke on Tin Can Alley.” However, I’m sure there are plenty who are familiar with the notion of a tin can and who truly believe the expression is “Tin Can Alley.” No examples just yet.
