behind the eggball

My sister-out-law reports that her boss uses the phrase “behind the eggball” instead of “eight-ball.”
There are two written references to this on my google search:

“Those of you on the West Coast are already behind the eggball. No excuses not to get busy!”
http://www.igs.net/~whisper/mar04.htm

“And if you dont get new sponsors each year, then you fall behind the eggball.”

Makes you wonder if they’ve never seen a pool game.

Re: behind the eggball

I wonder what imagery they have in mind when they utter “eggball.”

Re: behind the eggball

I’m guessing that they imagine an ovoid ball that would be hard to predict where exactly it is going to roll, or some such thing. And if it hits you, you get egg on your face, and the yoke’s on you.

Re: behind the eggball

Apart from the fact that this is absolutely terrific, do you think the “g” in “eight” influenced it somehow?
