watersprout for waterspout

Received this in an email today sent by a vacationing co-worker: “The attached photos are of tornados that we watched from our balcony at the beach, or more accurately, watersprouts.” This wasn’t a misspelling because the same word was used in two jpg file names and in the subject line of the message. Interestingly the photos (by Frank Berrier) were captured from a Panama City, Florida news outlet and clearly labeled as Waterspout. “Watersprout” actually makes some sense as the tornado appears to “sprout” from the sea.
