"hammy downs" for "hand-me-downs"

Haven’t been around long enough to know if this qualifies, but my kids recently informed me that for all these years, every time I said “hand-me-downs” they thought I was saying “hammy downs”. So that’s what we call them now.

Re: "hammy downs" for "hand-me-downs"

Welcome to the Eggcorn Website, NoJoy. For “hammy downs” to be an eggcorn, we’d have to identify any imagery associated with the word “hammy.” Perhaps you could ask your kids if they thought it refered to anything in particular.
