“Alan Smithee is actually a mamogram for…the Alias men.” The writer plainly wasn’t kidding.
From an on-line discussion of the old “Alan Smithee” credit granted by the Directors Guild for work disowned by the actual director. I was looking this up after seeing the opening credits for the “extended version” of “Dune,” “An Alan Smithee Film” and “Directed by Alan Smithee.” “Alan Smithee” in this case was, of course, David Lynch.
