"kniving" for "conniving"

Writing of the behavior of royal courtiers described by Raphael Hythloday in Book I of More’s Utopia, a student of mine referred to the “greed, bribery and kniving behavior in order to become powerful . . .” I am certain he meant “conniving.” But the image of “kniving” is too perfect.
