anatomosis' for 'anastomosis'

An anastomosis is a connection- usually surgically created- between two hollow organs or anatomical spaces. ‘Anastomosis’ is an anatomical term, but the two words have distinct etymologies (‘anastomosis’ comes from ‘stoma’- mouth, and ‘anatomy’ comes from ‘tome’- knife). ‘Anatomosis’ gets over 3,000 mentions, a surprisingly large number considering that it appears only in technical journals. Examples:

Anatomosis of middle cerebral artery with external carotid branch for a treatment of middle cerebral occlusion.

Re: anatomosis' for 'anastomosis'

maybe this has something to do with the greek suffix ”-osis”; as in the formation of a new anatomical feature. just 2 cents
