"Spare" for "Spur of the moment"

I searched the Eggcorn DB and was not successful at finding this entry. I apologize to all if this duplicates an existing entry.

I have heard and seen written the incorrect “on the spare of the moment” rather than “on the spur of the moment.” I know there is a requirement of imagery or reference to something known that seems to “fit” with the phrase. I will leave it to you who are more knowlegable than me to determine whether this qualifies.

While I am a ”-phile” of language, I am by NO means a professional writer or in any way of scholarly training.

Thanks.
