one hand scratches the other

one hand washes the other + you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours

I heard “one hand scratches the other” at lunch today. Not an eggcorn, but is there a list of whatever it is?

Re: one hand scratches the other

Welcome to the forum, jbiella. I guess “idiom blend” is about the closest technical label that I can think of. But maybe this should be called an “adage blend.”

People have certainly noted (probably) dozens of idiom blends on the two main pages of the forum. You can find them by searching for “idiom blend.” But there’s no formal list of them—at least not on this site.
