We also “buy in to” a philosophy or concept—meaning we use it guide ourselves.
We say “I’ll buy that” or “I don’t buy that.”
So a “buy word” is a word that expresses a sentiment or concept we can “buy into.”
sort of, “put your money where your mouth is.”
