Incidents vice incidence

For the past few years I’ve noticed an increase in people who say “incidences” when, from the context of the conversation, they clearly mean to say “incidents”. As in, “We recently had five incidences involving medication errors.” I imagine the confusion arrises because in casual conversation, the pronunciations of “incidents” and “incidence” are indistinguishable. I’ve haven’t seen this error in print yet. Not sure if it meets the criteria for an eggcorn.
