"loop hole" for loupe

Years ago when the first commcercial salvage was being raised from the Titanic, Telly Savalas was the host of a live TV special revealing the contents of a safe or whatever it was that had been raised… I think perhaps a strong box from the purser’s office where personal valuables of passengers were presumed to have been stored.
They had a staff of experts to examine the materials as they were revealed… sort of similar to the “Al Capone’s Vault” idea.

Watching it we cringed as Telly Savalas, obviously a little out of his element, kept referring to the experts’ loupes as “loop holes.”
