“how long do you have to wear a retrainer after braces?”
http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/archive … 67864.html
Could of course be a typo. Also, there seems to be a dental appliance with the trade name retrainer, but that doesn’t seem to be what’s being discussed here.
Very hard to tell how prevalent this is because it’s extremely tough to google.
A “retrainer” could be seen to be “retraining” your teeth to different positions.

I find four Google hits for “wear a retrainer”, including Craig’s example. I don’t find any for “wear {my/your/his/her/our/their} retrainer”.
All of the examples seem to be in peer-to-peer advice or self-description. None are obvious uses of the trade name. Two appear to be misspellings: the first below, plus Craig’s example, which uses retainer twice before retrainer.
and then he just kept bitching about how i probably didn’t wear my retainer as long as i should have and blah blah blah. so now he wasn’t me to wear a retrainer to fix my so called popped tooth! grr i was so pissed after i left his office.

um it depends how bad your teeth are and if your jaw is right for the cost of the braces and the amount it is.

I agree with Craig’s analysis: a retainer is a device to retrain teeth. The key question is whether these are reshapings along this line, or just misspellings/typos.

Well dang, I didn’t even notice that the example I gave was clearly a typo.
