"data minding" for "data mining"

“data minding” for “data mining”

This is apparently a new, computer-age variation on the “mind” for “mine” confusion. This particular variation does not seem to have been mentioned on this site until now (correct me if I’m wrong). I found it on a blog dating from 19 February, 2007:

”...any one-hop proxy service leaves you wide open to data minding and traffic analysis attacks.”

Re: "data minding" for "data mining"

When what’s being mined is information, this one seems particularly appropriate.

It is, as you note, a sub-case of a more general mind/mine confusion.

Some people (e.g. a sister-in-law of mine) are gold minds for this sort of data.

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)
