'grits for the mill' for 'grist for the mill'

A common word substituted for a slightly less common one. Grist is what goes into a mill; grits come out. Examples:

never cool off: maintain mindfulness all day, throughout the events of the day. All elements of conscious activity are grits for the mill.

Along with her brethren in radio DJ Supa Sam, Drea-Drea uses what it is to be an artist in today’s entertainment industry as grits for the mill.
