mallow << mellow

The eggcorn “marshmellow” was noted (without discussion) in 2006: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/view … hp?id=317. It’s an extremely common word-over 800K ghits. “Marshmellow” is a good candidate for the eggcorn database-mellow is the experience of eating a ‘mellow, yes?

To complete the roundtrip, “mallow out” appears in few places on the web:

Personal page: “Jordan has gone to bed for the night and i can watch tele with a few beers n a smoke and mallow out.” (http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=8519920)

Comment on music review site: “cool tunes the sort of music you can just sit back mallow out and take it all in….” (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/review/album/s1456152.htm)

New Zealand travel site: “Just mallow out in the Bay of Islands, before returning to Auckland that day.” (http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/nzeala … rt_ni.html)

Perhaps these people are thinking about the satiny and succulent mallow filling in creme eggs.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
