'apprentice ship' for 'apprenticeship'

This occurs about 800 times and rises to eggcorn level when a nautical theme is otherwise present: More generally, perhaps people think of an apprentice ship as a means to launch one’s career, taking the metaphor too literally. (‘intern ship’ and ‘preceptor ship’ also turn up)

Re: 'apprentice ship' for 'apprenticeship'

Google estimates that “apprentice ship/apprentice-ship” occurs more than 30K times. Of the 1000 sites that Google lists, about 800 are unique, so would be reasonable to guess that the phrase occurs on about 20K pages.

How does this differ from friendship, authorship, kinship, partnership, directorship, craftsmanship, horsemanship, sportsmanship or seamanship? Each of these words occur in thousands of web pages on which the ”-ship” morpheme is separated from the head word.
