'perked' for 'piqued'

This is in an op-ed column by Joan Vennochi in today’s Boston Globe:

“She’s the only one who perked my interest,” said Barry Robertson of Danvers, Mass., who drove over the boarder to New Hampshire to see Palin.

(Peaked’ and ‘peeked’ are already in the database, but ‘perked’ seems not to have been noticed so far.)

It’s common- ‘perked my interest’ gets 14k ghits, e.g.,

This book was a blast to read and really perked my interest in the subject again .

I certainly don’t know nearly as much about the economy as some of the buffs out there, but it perked my interest.

...and he mentions this book in two of his songs (“London Fields” and “Nicola 6”) which perked my interest in Amis.

I listen almost only to (non-smooth) jazz but picked just up a two-disc SACD set , Royal Philharmonic Orchestra “Voyage”, which really perked my interest ...

The site that brought the US up to the minute soccer info and which first perked my interest in blogging is shutting down for good.

Re: 'perked' for 'piqued'

The new imagery, I suppose, includes using the verb “perk” synonymously with transitive “perk up”—she made my interest perk up? Or set it to percolating?

(Roomer has it that boarder is an interesting formation too, though probably not an eggcorn.)

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)
