columnbarium--a demi-eggcorn?

I came across an internet at for “columnbariums,” memorials or mausoleums designed with columns. The term “columbarium” starts out as “dove cote” but becomes a niche for storing funerary ashes. I suspect as these grandiose displays became popular in cemetaries and at mortuaries, the use of columns as a design element led to the adaptation and respelling of columbarium.

This seems to be closely related to jupiter9’s “column burial,” posted here: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/view … hp?id=2235

What do you do when you run out of ground to put ‘em in? You column-bury’em!
