'wailed up' for 'welled up'

Not too common, but wailing often accompanies tears.

Re: 'wailed up' for 'welled up'

Good one. Here’s another version—whaled up—that presents a equally striking image. In all the examples I found whale up seems to refer to the eye or the heart surfacing amid tears. (4 legit ghits)

Through the pain of my throat, the tubes in my nose, I found a sweeter more bitter pain as my eyes whaled up with tears.

When I saw all the kids in their uniform my heart swelled and then whaled up with tears what a priceless moments still brings tears to my eyes.

Edit: Other ocular fawna: tears wheeled up and willed up. These look part eggcorn, part what Joe Krozel referred to as “foggy-recollector scenario in which a new vivid image is produced which is like-sounding enough” (link). I’d like to believe they are viable eggcorns because the images are very vivid. (respectably, 24 and 28 legit ghits, respectively)

Tears wheeled up in my eyes and I almost fell to the ground.

Fan fics are an eggcornista’s treasure grove. With all the heated emotions spilling out there, it’s no wonder that eyes are welded with tears.

Eyes welded up with tears. Super reimaging.
