"Soundrack" for soundtrack

I suspect that many people don’t know what a soundtrack is: a thin band along the edge of a film strip (ah. What is a film strip?) where the sound has been recorded. Many seem to think that it is only the collection of songs that figured briefly in the background of a movie and are available to download to your iPod. Songs organized on a rack for your listening convenience, as if on a magazine rack. The sound rack. Too common and too clearly eggcorned to need examples, I think. 93,000,000 ughits for soundtrack, and 389,000 ughits for soundrack. Might appear in a dictionary soon? I can see someone coming to the Eggcorn Forum in 10 years with the cute find, a soundtrack.

Re: "Soundrack" for soundtrack

Makes sense to me. Most (conceivably all) the hits for soundrack do indeed seem to have the right meaning for soundtrack , and there are, as you say, lots of them.
