taking party in

It’s fairly common: over 5K ghits of various sorts

It’s something that a lot of our young people take party in.

Thankyou to all ASU members who took party in the Energy Day of Action.

I got married in 2002, but never lived together, he never took party in the marriage, can I get this marriage annulled?

140 Cub Scouts from all over the District took party in a fun activity day at Culzean on Sunday 24th

Moreover, many young men and women took party in the struggle because of its national character, not its party character.

Or maybe you would like to take party in a murder mystery evening, car treasure hunt, or horse racing party arranged by us at the hotel.

to study chemistry and zoology, but after two years was expelled for taking party in a rowdy anti-government student demonstration.

Likely there is some sort of blending going on with “take part in”, and “be (a) party to”. A lot of usages have at least a context of youthful high spirits or jinks, if not of outright celebration. (It seems a pity for a new husband not to take party in his marriage.) Other cases may evoke the “political party” sense.
.
Still, it’s another case that seems mushy/fuzzy to me, more than I like in a great eggcorn.

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)
