Continuing in a long line of short i to long e substitutions, fill can be replaced by feel. I don’t know what to make of the change to “feel his shoes” for fill his shoes. If it’s genuine (and sometimes it must be), and not a malaprop, then the meaning might be to “take on his role and feel the responsibility of it” which is not too far from the original. There are 4,490 ughits for “feel his shoes” and 9 real ghits for “feel her shoes.”
I don’t know anyone who can feel his shoes. The entertainment industry is not going to be the same without his voice.
