'mass of potttage' for 'mess of pottage''

‘Mess’ used to denote an amount of food is uncommon and ‘mass’ makes as much sense. 1000+ ghits:

The issue, indeed, is not whether the political scientist can have his cake and eat it too, but whether he shall trade his cake for a mass of pottage.

If you vote, you will be selling your own birthright, and your future, for a mass of pottage;

Re: 'mass of potttage' for 'mess of pottage''

Wow, great minds! Kudos, Ken (if I may) for that amazing mass of discoveries you made, or submitted at least, in such a short time in 2005, including mass of pottage. The mind truly boggles. Great reading. I should not have been so easily satisfied with the discovery of Peter’s post, to which I tacked my own observations.

I do like ‘klakritz’, however. All the names, or e-nonyms I guess, of the participants in this forum have their own resonance now.
