New lease OF life - for - new lease ON life

Is this an eggcorn (or is the yolk on me?)

news@nature.com reports: “Antibiotics get new lease of life”
Antibiotics get new lease of life. Mark Peplow. Drug-resistant bacteria can be forced to eject their protective DNA …

A new lease OF life is presumably a second go (as in reincarnation), whereas a new lease ON life implies you are already in residence, and have just been assured of an extension.

Yes? No? Maybe?

Cheers
